Choose Your Work Wisely

Sometimes, you might be tempted to try keeping up with "it all". All of the news; all of the animal advocacy events; all of the causes; all of the progress happening around the world.

But the truth is that it's fundamentally impossible to keep up with everything. Sure, there are ways to quickly scan the top headlines for the day to know what's going on—but who is controlling which headlines show up in that list? Does the list of news headlines have any correlation to the importance of the news? And what good happens from you reading those headlines, anyway?

If you try to volunteer at all of the organizations, you'll end up doing very little for anyone.

If you try contributing to every cause, you'll end up spread too thin to do anything meaningful for any of them.

The truth, whether we like it or not, is that we have to choose. But this is also liberating! It means you don't have to try to do everything. Because, well, you can't.

Your choice of what to work on matters quite a bit, and it's worth thinking very carefully about where to invest your limited time and energy. But you should also feel comforted by the fact that there are many other people in the world working on these issues too; you are not the only one.

So choose your work wisely, and then dive in fully, knowing that you are not alone.
