Building the Future for Animals

When the going gets tough or the problem seems too big, remember: you are building the future.

Together, we as animal advocates are building a better future for animals. We didn't start caring about this issue because it was easy, or because it would be solved quickly. We started caring about it because it's the right thing to do, regardless of how long it takes. That deep ethical caring can instill in us the fortitude for the long fight ahead, the years of work we have left to do.

Because the road ahead of us is long, and we need to not delude ourselves about that. Although we should always be smart and strategic, we can't expect quick fixes and silver bullets, because they likely do not exist.

If things will get worse before they get better, then we must find ways to endure that.

If this work carries on to the next generation (it will), then we must prepare that generation to pick up where we leave off.

That is what it means to build the future. It's not easy, and it's not certain.

But it couldn't be more important.
