Bringing Animal Advocacy To Our Communities
When animal advocates get together, there are sometimes conversations that go like this: "Is anyone working on animal issues in X space? It would be really high impact if someone could work on animal issues there. Someone should do that."
"X" could be anything: a specific career, or part of the country, or industry, or religious group, or community group, or type of hobby, etc. etc.
While we as advocates can sometimes help with efforts in various communities that are not our own, I want to highlight the power that we have to bring pro-animal topics, policies, and work into our communities. Because we, as members of our communities, are uniquely positioned to lead or assist efforts in those spaces.
So spend a little bit of time thinking about which communities you're a part of, which of those communities might be particularly important to introduce animal advocacy to, and how you might do that.
And it's best not to do these things alone, of course—if you can pull in other people or existing organizations to help, that's wonderful. And it will help keep you motivated and engaged, too.
